Background
Ellen started to learn tin whistle under the guidance of Paddy Ryan at the age of 6. Since then she has learned to play a number of instruments including fiddle, accordion, mandolin, piano and bodhrán. Ellen is also an accomplished singer and dancer. Ellen's main instrument is the fiddle which she started with Paddy Ryan, before being taught by Fiona Lavin and Michelle O'Brien. Ellen has attended numerous workshops and masterclasses learning from some of the best musicians in Ireland and abroad including Tommy Doherty (Accordion), PJ Hernon (Accordion), Liam O'Connor (Fiddle), John McHugh (Fiddle), Antaine MacGabhann (Fiddle), Seamus Brogan (Singing) and Meati Jó Shéamúis (Irish Singing).
Ellen has completed all SCT exams in Irish Traditional Music, organised by Comhaltas as well as Grade 7 piano (RIAM) and Senior Certificate in Musical Theory and Harmony (RIAM). She has a BA in Music and Religion from St Patrick's College, Drumcondra and studied Primary Education with Hibernia College.
Ellen has taught music since 2007 to students of all ages, from 4-70+. She uses a variety of teaching methodologies including learning by ear, staff notation and letter notation.
